What are Business Development Services (BDS) ?

BDS are services such as information and assistance for taxation, marketing, business planning, equipment supply, technical and entrepreneurship training and export/import promotion provided by private and public service providers.

Some of the members are: Federal and Regional Micro and Small Enterprises Development Agencies (FEMSEDA and REMSEDAs), Ethiopian Chambers of Commerce, Progynist and Propride (NGOs), MEDF (network of 20 NGOs), MSE Development Project, UNIDO, ILO, EU and private BDS providers such as consultants for business management. If you would like to join the network or share your experiences on MSE development, contact mse-pro@ethionet.et.

Discussion Paper criticizing the "Full Commercial BDS Approach"

This discussion paper based on our mixed BDS approach of collaboration of public and private, commercial BDS providers and facilitating agencies criticizes the "full commercial BDS approach" focussing exclusively on commercial BDS providers with fully paid services for BDS market development.

In the first part of the discussion paper also the "voucher scheme" approach that means to introduce a subsidy system for business development services, is critisized.
